Source: Mejuri
Mejuri is a fair jewellery brand. They design fine jewellery that you can wear every day. Mejuri demands full transparency on all their activities. Where the materials come from, where they were processed, the working conditions in which the pieces were made and the overall contribution to climate change.
Fair trade: Mejuri works with jewellers all over the world. The sterling silver and gemstone experts are located in Seoul, South Korea, and the gold chain artisans are located in Arezzo, Italy. The label has strong partnerships with their manufacturing partners so that the sourcing and craftsmanship of the pieces is done in accordance with comprehensive sustainability standards. They prefer suppliers certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council, an international framework for adherence to best practices around health, safety, human rights, fair labour, governance and environmental protection. Diamonds are selected, and they comply with the Kimberley Process, which ensures that the diamonds they use do not give rise to armed conflict in high-risk countries. Unfortunately, this process cannot fully guarantee traceability from the mine to the market and therefore committed to Mejuri even further. Their goal is to ensure that 100% of the gold is traceable by the end of 2021.
Environmentally friendly: 70% of the 14k solid gold products are made with certified recycled gold and 30% are newly mined. Currently, 40% of all Mejuri items are made from recycled material. To further reduce their carbon footprint, Mejuri has conducted a life-cycle assessment in collaboration with Climate Positive Consulting in San Francisco to get a clear picture of their emissions and water consumption in all their activities as a company. By the end of 2021, they will share targets based on this to reduce the footprint.
Good cause: In June 2020, Mejuri established a fund to support women. Since then, 37 women and non-binary people have received scholarships from the Empowerment Fund. Mejuri has also partnered with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) in the United States and BBPA (Black Business Professional Association) in Canada, which pledges $120,000 USD in scholarships for black women and black non-binary people.
