Source: Lost in Samsara
Lost in Samsara offers beautiful products that are handcrafted by skilled artisans who come from unprivileged backgrounds. The brand hopes to empower these talented people by providing them with living wages, so they can rise above poverty. Lost in Samsara offers a wide range of products, including jewellery, bags, and other accessories.
Fair trade: Lost in Samsara is part of BAFTS - Fair Trade Network UK, and ensures fair trade practises for all the partners they work with. They currently work with four fair trade workshops and organisations. Craftsworks Cambodia, Just Trade (in Peru, Ecuador, and India), Maya Tradition (in Guatemala), and Smart Crafts (in Cambodia). They have visited all of these workshops and can ensure good working conditions and living wages. Maya Traditions is part of WFTO, and Lost in Samsara is planning on becoming a member of WFTO with all the workshops and organizations they work with.
Environmentally friendly: Lost in Samsara makes their beautiful items from upcycled materials that were saved from landfill. They use materials such as inner tubes, motorcycle seats, and cement bags. The items are all handcrafted in small amounts, ensuring environmentally friendly production.
The packaging that Lost in Samsara uses is plastic-free and made from biodegradable materials. You also get the option to make your order carbon neutral upon purchase.
Vegan: Since Lost in Samsara uses upcycled materials, they cannot guarantee that the products are vegan. They don't use any animal products on purpose.
Good cause: The organizations that Lost in Samsara works with are committed to making a positive impact. Craftswork and Smart Crafts give training to disabled people, mainly victims of land mines and polio. Just trade provides literacy programs, artisan development programs, community health programs, youth scholarships, and community tourism.
